Want to know how I film my YouTube videos and record my podcast? I get a lot of questions asking what equipment I use, so I made this list for anyone wanting to know more!

Earlier videos on my channel were shot and recorded with different equipment (I’m always upgrading and making changes), but this is my most current set-up!

My Main Camera: Sony FX3

This is the camera I use for most of my YouTube videos (including the top-down shots featured on my channel!) I initially started YouTube using an iPhone and a goose arm desk mount, but have upgraded a few times along the way!

My Main Lens: Sony - FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM Wide-Angle Zoom Lens (SEL1635GM)

Here’s the lens I use to capture most of my shots!

a6600

My B-Roll Camera: Sony a6600

Do you need two cameras to film YouTube videos? No…but it’s nice to have a B-roll camera to film with multiple angles! This fits the bill for mutli-camera filming!

Sony SEL35F18 35mm

My Favorite B-Roll Lens: Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens

I have a lot of B-roll lenses but this one is my favorite! Nice Bokeh effect which gives that smooth, blurry background look!

K&F tripod

My Front-Facing Tripod: K&F Concept TM2515T1

A solid tripod choice! Even though I mostly use this as a stationary tripod for my front facing shots, it also has a central column that can move from 0 to 180 degrees and can be rotated 360° horizontally which allows for extra flexibility to capture over-the-shoulder shots when needed.

My Tripod Head: Neewer Metal Heavy Duty Video Camera Tripod Fluid Drag Pan Head

This upgraded fluid head is made of crafted aluminum alloy…super solid and durable!

Aputure 120d II LED Light

My Key Light: Aputure 120d II LED Light w/ Aputure Light Dome II Softbox

A powerhouse of a light! 5500k color temp matches the sun and blends seamlessly as white light for natural look.

light dome ii

This dome measures 35″ wide and gives the 120d II a beautiful, diffused soft light….perfect for filming!

manfrotto magic arm

My Overhead Camera Mount: Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm & Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp

The perfect ceiling mount option to get that overhead tutorial shot (see the video below for a detailed look of my set up!)

A look at the top-down camera set-up in action!

rode ntg8

My Overhead Boom Mic: Rode NTG8 Shotgun Microphone

This mic is absolutely overkill for my setup. I had initially planned on getting the cheaper Rode NTG3, but was able to get this one used for much less than that model. I have it ceiling-mounted to save space.

shure sm7b

My Podcast Mics: 2x Shure SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone

Many of you may be familiar with this mic since it’s commonly referred to as the “Joe Rogan” microphone. I have two of these (one mounted on each side of my desk) and use when recording my podcast or when Mrs. DeL joins me for my YouTube videos!

cloudlifter

2x Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator

These Cloudlifters use phantom power to give the Shure SM7B microphones up to +25dB without passing phantom power on to the mic…resulting in a louder, cleaner sound.

samson boom arm

My Microphone Boom Arm: 2x Samson MBA38-38” Microphone Boom Arm

These boom arms are super sturdy! They have clamps that are capable of adjusting super wide which allows me to attach them to my thicker-than-normal desk.

Rodecaster

My Mixing Board (Used for YouTube Audio & Podcast Recording): Rode RODECaster Pro Podcast Production Studio

Moved over to this from a Zoom H6. Tons of hookups with an awesome interface on the computer to transfer files. An absolute gem!

macbook

My Computer: Apple 2021 MacBook Pro (14-inch, M1 Max chip with 10‑core CPU and 32‑core GPU, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD) - Space Gray Z15H00109

YouTube video and podcast editing is all done here! I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my YouTube videos and Adobe Audition for the podcast!
